I take my daily vitamins, DO YOU?!

Do you take vitamins daily? Are taking vitamins even necessary? The answer to both of those questions should be y e s. I promised in a previous post that I would share my favorite vitamins and supplements with you guys and I always keep my promises. What all I share may not be necessary for you to take because what I need may not be what you need, so just keep that in mind. What you take should be based off YOUR OWN health status.

yhst-15658733819255_2502_272629379EVERYONE should at least be taking a daily multivitamin if you choose to not take anything else. My favorite brand is the Women’s One food-based multivitamin (there also is a men’s one). Multivitamins provide you with an array of essential vitamins of minerals. So if you not feeling a salad and want a lil junk food instead, this is a good way to balance the nutritional slack.

These next few supplements are for hair, skin, and nails. So basically beauty pills that keep ya pretty, and are good for you. These are the supplements that have significantly helped me to get my skin and hair to flourish. *I use the Barlean’s and nature’s bounty interchangeably.

The Essential Woman.Barlean’s essential women. These vitamins are made with flaxseed oil, evening Primrose oil and special plant phytonutrients and it supplies omegas 3, 6 and 9. These nurture and nourish beauty from within, which results in outward beauty, which in turn is a reflection of inner health. Resulting in radiant glowing skin, lustrous hair and strong nails. They also balance female hormones. For my men, they got a supplement for you too!

Evening Primrose OilEvening primrose oil.  Benefits include its ability to soothe inflammation, strengthen the bones, promote good skin health, balance hormones, lower cholesterol, prevent cancer, optimize digestion, regulate blood sugar levels,  and prevent hair loss. I use it mainly for skin health. Evening primrose soothes dryness and nourishes skin with important fatty acids that can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, black already don’t crack but with this you’ll be 85 looking 55.

Nature's BountyNature’s bounty hair skin and nails (infused with argan oil). I take these for obvious reasons. Being healthy is always beautiful. If you take these your skin will look good and you’ll feel even better. High potency b vitamins help with energy metabolism and biotin helps to maintain healthy hair and nails. Vitamin E is an antioxidant and it can contribute to skin health. Vitamin C is involved in collagen production and formation, which forms the basis for vibrant skin. Vitamin A assists with skin maintenance and overall health.

Now it’s time to move on to the herbal supplements!

ginger root

Ginger root. It cleans the GI tract, which is important because everything we consume eventually reaches digestion and you don’t want any toxic residue just chillin in ya guts because it can end up being very harmful to your body. Ginger also fights infections, lowers cholesterol, lowers blood sugar and reduces the risk of heart disease.

milk thistle

Milk thistle. Two words, liver. health. It detoxifies and protects the liver by absorbing toxins. It also helps to protect against cancer, lowers cholesterol, helps to control or prevent diabetes, boosts skin health, has anti-aging effects, and the antioxidant properties of it helps to maintain eye, joint, and muscle health.

Olive leaf extract. One word, immunity. It has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and disease-fighting properties. It also is good for your cardiovascular system, protects your skin from environmental stressors (like the sun’s UV rays), and nourishes deep within the hair follicle, which in turn makes ya hair super shiny.

Burdock root

Burdock Root. It’s a blood purifier (the bessssst part) lymphatic system strengthener, natural diuretic and skin healer. It also aids digestion, detoxifies the liver, balances hormones, improves skin health, boosts immunity, reduces inflammation, lowers blood pressure, and is a natural cure for cold and fever.

valerian rootValerian root. Me, my dad, and my twin sister ALL struggle with sleep. I bought a fitbit and it tracks my sleep and it always says awake and restless literally every hour. I tried melatonin but for some reason I don’t respond to it so I turned to this. It supports tranquil rest and relaxation. This supplement has not been a total cure all but I am more relaxed at night and manage to get a little more sleep versus when I don’t take this before bed at all. It also calms anxiety (which I have now due to grad school), lowers blood pressure, eases menstrual cramps (which I never get thank God), and improves stress management.

Aloe vera gel

Aloe vera gel. It supports healthy digestion, a healthy immune system, reduces harmful toxins, increases absorption of nutrients (which is my main reason for using it), enhances antioxidant support, balances stomach acidity naturally, and soothes muscle and joint discomfort. I  take a spoonful of this 30 min. before a meal, or I’ll just mix it in one of my smoothies in the morning. *For skin use, I mix it with tea tree oil and apply it to any blemishes that decide to pop up.

These last two are basically randoms that I decided to add to my regimen because they have good benefits.

Vitamin B12

Vitamin B12. Its main function is energy production, which is what I need to get me through the 12 hour days I sometimes have, but it also is good for brain health, the digestive system, promotes healthy skin hair and nails (so this also can be a beauty pill too), and helps with cholesterol.

Cranberry

Cranberry. Three important words, urinary. tract. health. Never have I ever had a yeast infection or UTI and I never ever ever ever want one. No sir no ma’am.

LL-arginine-Arginine. Like I mentioned in an earlier post, I got my degree in exercise science and in our curriculum we learned about EVERY amino acid (fun fact: there are 20 amino acids in your body’s proteins). I’ve taken many different BCAA supplements and what not but I decided to stick with this one because it also supports heart health (improves blood flow in the arteries of the heart), and our body does produce it but sometimes it doesn’t produce enough. I also choose to take it because it improves athletic performance, helps build stronger muscle, and promotes lean body mass. WE IN DA GYM ALL 2018 OKURRRRR.
