I have always had clear skin up until recently. I am currently dealing with hormonal acne and it honestly is one of the most frustrating things I have ever dealt with. I only have a few minor blemishes on my cheek and a few on my forehead, but since I have never had to deal with this before I am extremely annoyed. However, instead of stressing myself out about it and causing even more breakouts, I just do whatever I can to keep it as calm as it can be and continue to use/create more homemade skin products that cater to my current skin-uation, eat hormone balancing foods + consuming a lot of superfood teas/lattes/tonics etc. *By the way, maca is a great hormone balancing superfood, it’s my go to.
I am really keen on essential oils now. At first I would just use them for my aromatherapy needs in my diffuser, but now I am incorporating them more in my all natural beauty regimen and using them medicinally. After researching what each essential oil does topically, I came up with the most PERFECT facial serum. I have been using it for the past three nights now and my skin is clearing up quite nicely and I couldn’t be happier.
Disclaimer: just keep in mind that what works for my skin may not work for yours. However, I came up with this non-comedogenic serum for anyone suffering with acne to try without having to worry about it clogging their pores. Also, acne is our body telling us something needs our attention. In my case I have a hormonal imbalance, that may not be the case for you. My advice to you is to figure out what it is that is causing your acne and do what is necessary for you to make it better.
How to make!
- All you need is these two carrier oils: grapeseed oil (2 tsp), and jojoba oil (1 tsp).
- 6 drops of these four essential oils: lavender, tea tree, lemongrass, and frankincense.
I apply this serum at night after I cleanse and tone, and I follow it with a moisturizer. Before I apply the moisturizer I let the serum seep into my skin for a few minutes.
Grapeseed oil helps treat acne and scarring.
Jojoba oil clears clogged pores, dead skin cells, and sebum. It’s soothing and is an antibacterial.
Tea tree oil unclogs pores and has antibacterial and antimicrobial compounds that fight acne bacteria.
Lavender has anti-bacterial properties and aids in skin cell regeneration.
Lemongrass has antifungal, antimicrobial, and antiseptic properties. It helps to shrink pores and form a barrier against harmful environmental stressors.
Frankincense in an anti-inflammatory and is considered one of the best essential oils for acne treatment.
I purchased this essential oil kit from Amazon: Essential Oils! (these are not displayed in the photos, I’m trying to finish using my old ones first) and I buy the now solutions oils (in this case grapeseed and jojoba) from HEB. I bought the mini glass dropper and the funnel from the container store.
Be good to your skin!
